Conference interpreting

IT<>FR, IT<>EN

Conference interpreting includes simultaneous interpreting, consecutive interpreting, and whispered interpreting. Tell me about your project, and I will help you figure out what you need!

  • Simultaneous interpreting: the interpreter sits in a sound-proof booth where he can listen to the speech in the source language through a headset and translates it simultaneously in the target language. Simultaneous interpreting is usually performed by two interpreters taking turns every 20-30 minutes.  This interpreting mode is generally used during conferences with several working languages, to allow speakers and participants to listen to the translation through headsets, without disturbing other people.

  • Consecutive interpreting: the interpreter normally sits by the speaker. After listening to the speaker's speech or section of speech (max. 6 minutes) and taking notes, the interpreter translates it in the target language. This technique is generally used during events with a limited number of participants and only one foreign language.

  • Whispered translation or chuchotage: the interpreter sits by or behind the person who needs the translation and, whispering into his ear, he translates the speaker's speech simultaneously. Unlike simultaneous interpreting, whispered translation does not require microphones, headsets, or booths. For this reason, this interpreting mode is recommended in meetings where only 2-3 people need a translation.
